Aaron Reid admits Airdrie must take points off Dunfermline in Saturday’s bottom of the table clash to get out of their rut.

The Diamonds striker netted an equaliser in Saturday’s clash at Livingston but his second goal of the season proved to no avail, as Livingston grabbed a stoppage-time winner through Andrew Shinnie in a 2-1 win

That made it three straight defeats for the Diamonds and kept them rock-bottom with the Pars after a run of just one win in seven games.

The squad has been decimated by injuries and Airdrie were only able to field four outfield substitutes at the weekend.

But Reid knows, even in the face of adversity, things need to turn around quickly.

He said: “I think the Dunfermline game is one we definitely need to take points from. We need to get out of the hole we are in and start getting some points on the board.

“We’ve got a lot of young boys in the team and I think a bit of maturity needs to try and come through quickly, and see out games. If we’d got a point, you could say there’s a lot to build on, but we’ve lost a late goal and lost the game.

“A lot of starting boys are out at the moment. That is something we just need to work around. Once we get a full strength team back, we should be expecting to win most games. The rub of the green is not happening for us right now, but there are positives there.”

Airdrie had their best spell in the first half and even though Livingston came right back into it after the break.

The visitors almost found a winner before Shinnie struck, with Chris Mochrie somehow failing to convert inside the six-yard box in 82 minutes.

Reid added: “I thought we were very good in the first half, it’s just that we sat off too much in the second half. We had them penned in most of the time in the first-half and that was when they got their goal, but we had plenty of chances in either half to put the game to bed and not taking them has come back to bite us right at the end.

“We need to bring that first half performance every week. I think that’s the best we’ve played in a couple of weeks now. From playing a part and being a sub over that time, that was a good performance in the first half that we need to bring for 90 minutes.”
