As part of its 100th anniversary celebrations, Airdrie Library is preparing to launch a series of exciting and entertaining new groups for readers.

The venue has a packed programme planned to mark the magical milestone to honour "both the building and the community".

In the "spirit of regeneration" and in a bid to "get more members of the public back in the door post-Covid, the hard-working literary lovers at the library are unveiling a wide range of new groups.

A spokesperson for the library explained: "We have Killers and Coffee - a new group for anyone who is a fan of coffee and/or true crime.

"We have a range of exciting guests lined up, from detectives, survivors and filmmakers of whodunnitry.

"Our A Time Travellers' Guide to the Library group involves two local primary five classes and will be linked to the 100th anniversary through being divided into three themes - past, present and future.

"The children will become Time Travellers and investigate each theme and close it with a birthday party for the library at the end of school year in June.

"One major goal is to help the Time Travellers make connections to how these concepts impact their everyday lives and the people in the world around them.

"The Time Travellers will be invited to imagine the future of libraries and it will be embedded into them that they can create their desired future.

"Finally, our LGBTQ+ group will be held every second Saturday and is set to be one of the only, if not the only, LGBTQ+ groups in the area.

"It will offer a safe space for young people from the LGBTQ+ community to gather and celebrate their culture."

The Killers and Coffee events will be held on the first Thursday of each month, from 5.30pm to 6.30pm, with the first taking place on February 6.
