Airdrie photography student snaps up City of Glasgow College's Art Foundation Highly Commended Award

A superb student from Airdrie has snapped up a top accolade from the City of Glasgow College.

Naomi Wood graduated with a BA (Hons) in photography and also scooped the Art Foundation Highly Commended Award, along with a prize of £75.

This excellent achievement highlights Naomi’s "exceptional talent and dedication to her craft during her time at the college".

Reflecting on the award, Naomi told Lanarkshire Live: "I am incredibly happy to be chosen to receive the Art Foundation Highly Commended Award.

"This year did not come without its creative challenges but resulted in me producing photography work of which I am proud.

"To be recognised for my work in this way is an honour."

Throughout her studies at the City of Glasgow College, Naomi demonstrated "a passion for pushing creative boundaries", excelling in the fields of food photography, still life, and street-level advertising imagery.

The college is "incredibly proud" to see her hard work and artistic vision recognised on this prestigious platform.

Curriculum head for photography, Iain Smart, praised Naomi’s accomplishment, adding: "Naomi’s award is well deserved. As a hard-working student, she has both a creative and commercial edge to her work.

"Her discipline to her photography has seen her work both successful in competitions and carving a career in the events and food photography industries.

"Her creative still life work displayed in her degree show was excellent in both theme and context, showing a high level of skill in photography.”

The City of Glasgow College extends its "warmest congratulations" to Naomi on her "well-deserved success and looks forward to seeing her career flourish further".

Since graduating, Naomi has continued to build an impressive portfolio.

Her work has been displayed in prominent exhibitions such as Glasgow Gallery of Photography’s Light & Shadow and Futureproof24.

She has also gained international recognition, being shortlisted for the 2024 Pink Lady Food Photographer Award and receiving Merit Awards from the British Institute of Professional Photography in 2021 and 2022.
