When it comes to airline snacks, it seems the world is pretty passionate.

When you’re spending ten hours hurtling through the sky at 500mph, sometimes you just want a Biscoff biscuit.

Is that so much to ask?

Apparently yes, yes it is. United Airlines have scrapped their Biscoff complimentary snack in favour of Oreo Thins and travellers are livid about the decision.

Biscoff has gathered somewhat of a cult following in recent years with cake makers creating Biscoff flavoured creations and Lotus even bringing out a Biscoff spread.

Andrea Hiller, a spokeperson for United Airlines, told USA Today: “Our complimentary snack options continue to be a hit and we’re always looking for opportunities to introduce new selections.

“We plan to add Oreo Thins into the mix soon and look forward to the response from our customers.”

It didn’t take long for the news to filter through to Biscoff enthusiasts and the response was not favourable.

In fact, the news hit so hard that Biscoff were forced to issue a statement assuring its fans that the snack would be back on board in May.

Some people were so enraged they said they’d look for another airline to fly with.

One person wrote: “United dropping Biscoff in favour of Oreo is another reason to choose a different airline.”

Strong words.

Another described the move as “playing with fire”.

“United Airlines decided to play with fire this week when it announced a controversial change to its lineup of in-flight snack options. Biscoff cookies -- those buttery, melt-in-your-mouth, cinnamon-ginger-nutmeg biscuits -- will soon be replaced by ... Oreo Thins.”

It’s not that people don’t like Oreos, it’s more about how they leave your teeth looking. At least, that’s what some Biscoff fans believe.

“Why would you replace Biscoff cookies with Oreos? Oreos are good but . . . what do your teeth look like after eating Oreos? No one wants to brush their teeth on a plane!” One person said.

There are many people in favour of the switch, though, adding to the debate: What’s better - Biscoff of Oreo Thins?

The verdict’s still out.
