Graeme Bailey has stated that Al-Ittihad genuinely think there’s a chance they sign Mohamed Salah, as it’s believed the Liverpool forward “wants to go”.

If Salah was to move to Saudi Arabia, he’d be one of the most high-profile players to do so. Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema are probably the two biggest names in the Saudi Pro League at the moment.

Ronaldo, while now 38, is one of the best players ever, and Benzema won the Ballon d’Or last year, so both are clearly up there. From a Premier League perspective, Salah, one of the league’s biggest names, would be a huge loss.

That would absolutely be the case for Liverpool, as they’d be losing their top star, and would have no opportunity to replace him until January. As such, to this point, they’ve held firm, knocking back an offer north of £100million.

Indeed, from the Reds’ point of view, there is no story here, and Salah will remain at Anfield. But Al-Ittihad are persisting, and it’s stated they’re ready to return with a bid of £200million before their transfer window closes on September 7.

Transfer insider Bailey has reiterated that they will continue, due to the fact the club genuinely believes Salah will move.

“I’m being told from sources at Al-Ittihad, if they didn’t think there was a chance here, they wouldn’t be trying,” Bailey said on Talking Transfers.

“There’s not a green light from FSG, but you know, the door isn’t completely shut on this.”

Al-Ittihad’s belief that they’ll be able to land Salah goes hand in hand with a belief that the winger wants to leave Liverpool in order to make the move.

“It’s our belief that the player wants to go, he wants the move,” Bailey added.

That reinforces a previous report that stated Salah had told ‘close friends’ that he was ‘tempted’ by not only the money, but the potential of being the poster boy for the Middle East.

Whether or not Liverpool allow him to make the move even if that is true remains to be seen. But with Salah’s contract running out in two years’ time, when he’ll be 33, now might be the best chance for them to make good money from him, and it would be very good money.

However, they may prefer to have him than the funds, and whether that is the case will be answered over the next couple of days.
