Alabama Beach Flies Double Red Flags as Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Gulf of Mexico

Alabama’s Orange Beach was flying double red flags on Tuesday, June 18, indicating it was forbidden to get into the water as a tropical storm warning was issued for the Gulf of Mexico.

Footage released by Orange Beach Surf Rescue shows the stormy weather, with powerful waves hitting the shore amid strong winds.

“Double Red Flags represent Gulf waters are closed to the public due to potentially life-threatening rip currents and dangerous surf,” Orange Beach Surf Rescue wrote on Facebook, adding that getting into the water in these conditions could lead to arrest or a fine.
