Alabama Beach Off Limits to Swimmers as Potential Tropical Cyclone Strengthens

Swimmers were urged to stay out of Gulf waters on Friday, June 18, as the City of Orange Beach, Alabama, prepared for the arrival of a potential tropical cyclone.

Footage taken on Friday morning shows Romar Beach, where officials flew two red flags indicating people should not swim due to life-threatening risk.

A tropical storm warning, coastal flood advisory, high surf advisory, rip current statement, and flash-flood watch were in effect for Orange Beach, the National Weather Service (NWS) said.

The storm was forecast to become a minimal tropical storm before making landfall on the Louisiana coast overnight Friday into Saturday before moving inland across Mississippi and Alabama on Saturday, the NWS said. Credit: City of Orange Beach via Storyful
