Alan Carr has recalled the time his car was stolen and used to ram a shop during the 2011 London riots.

Unrest began in the capital in August 2011 following the death of Mark Duggan, who was shot and killed by police.

Carr, 44, revealed that his vehicle was taken around that time and driven into a mobile phone store.

The comedian shared the story on Jamie Laing and Francis Boulle's Private Parts podcast as he said: "They stole my Mini and someone drove into a Carphone Warehouse with it and used it as a ram raid."

"And do you know the worrying thing was, my glasses were in the glove compartment – I was terrified that they’d put them on and then did the ram raid and people thought it was me," he added.

Carr said he decided to sell the car after getting it back and repairing it as he felt it had been tainted.

"This sounds so stupid, but I felt so soiled and dirty that I sold the car," he said. "Well it was part of a crime and I felt bad, I’m Alan Carr and law abiding, so I sold the car."

Carr added that the vehicle thief was never found.
