Alan Cartwright: CCTV Of Boy's Stab Death

Police have released "truly shocking" video of the moment a 15-year-old was stabbed to death while cycling along a busy London street.

Alan Cartwright was with friends in Islington on Friday when they were ambushed on Caledonian Road.

The CCTV shows two suspects suddenly jumping off the pavement as the boys ride past.

A third attacker crosses the road and pulls one of Alan’s friends off his bike.

Alan managed to continue riding for a short while before collapsing.

An ambulance was called but the teenager was pronounced dead at the scene.

He died from a single stab wound, according to a post-mortem examination.

The attack happened near the junction of Copenhagen Street at 7.34pm.

Detective Chief Inspector Chris Jones, leading the investigation, said Alan "stood no chance" of defending himself against the sudden attack.

"We are working tirelessly and the investigation is moving at a fast pace," said DCI Jones.

"It is obvious from the footage that Caledonian Road is busy with cars and pedestrians.

"We have already spoken to a number of witnesses who have provided helpful information to the investigation; however, I would like to re-appeal to anyone who may know something about Alan's murder and the robbery of the bikes."

The stolen bicycles were a red mountain bike and a black and red bike.

The suspects - three male youths - had their faces partly covered and were wearing dark tops, said police.

Alan's sister was among dozens of people at a vigil for her brother at the weekend.

She said: "He was every sort of personality you can think of, really, all wrapped in one.

"He had his moments, but he beat them with his laughter and his jokes and joys."
