Alan Shearer wades in on Ollie Watkins’ ‘awful day’ as gaffes cost Aston Villa
Alan Shearer thinks Ollie Watkins would have had a restless night after missing two big chances in Aston Villa's defeat to Arsenal.
Watkins squandered two golden opportunities to put Villa ahead before the Gunners broke the deadlock in the 67th minute. Leandro Trossard came off the bench to score Arsenal's opener as he ghosted in from the back post to fire past Emi Martinez.

"If you wanted the chances to fall to anyone in the Villa team, it would be him," Shearer said. "It was an awful day. He won’t be sleeping easy tonight.
"If you just have a look, he trips himself up a little and can’t quite sort his feet out. That perhaps puts him off and he scuffs the shot wide.
"We talked about David Raya producing a wonderful save last week at 1-0, this one was at 0-0. But as a forward [Watkins] had enough to aim to there.
"Watkins does really well to get in there, but has a big enough gap to get it in. Any other day one of those would go in for him though."
Watkins will be looking to open his account for the season in Villa's next Premier League game, away against Leicester City next Saturday (3pm kick-off).
