Alan Shearer's huge net worth, daughters with famous boyfriends and rarely seen wife
Alan Shearer will be the mainstay of Amazon Prime Video's commentary team for this season's Champions League, which kicked off on Tuesday night.
The legendary former Newcastle United and England striker's first assignment was out in Italy as Liverpool took on AC Milan on matchday one in Europe's premier footballing competition.
The Premier League's all-time record goalscorer has built a strong reputation for himself since finishing his illustrious playing career. He has received praise for his role as a pundit and analyst on BBC's Match of the Day, as well as his transition into the commentary box.
Here is a comprehensive look at the life Shearer has built and his family life away from the game he loves.
Staggering net worth
Shearer has built up a vast personal fortune both during and after his playing days.
The 54-year-old was a record transfer when he signed for Newcastle United for £15m from Blackburn Rovers in 1996, having already won the league with his previous club and announced himself with Southampton.
His media work with the BBC, Al-Jazeera and now Amazon — as well as his podcast, The Rest is Football with Gary Lineker and Micah Richards — has seen him maintain his status as one of the most recognisable faces in football.
His BBC income alone nets him £380,000. Shearer's BBC salary reduced massively this year, however, with the pundit seeing £65,000 slashed off his 2022/23 earnings of £445,000.
That is unlikely to lose him too much sleep at night, though, because, according to Goal, his net worth is estimated at around a cool £40m.
Wife doesn't like limelight
Shearer is married to his long-term partner Lainya. The pair, who met when Shearer was playing for Southampton, tied the knot in 1991, having lived with her parents on the south coast during his second year at the club.
The Shearers have three children together and Alan has recalled the fury which was aimed at him by his wife when he secured a move from Southampton up to Blackburn in 1992.
Lainya was pregnant with their eldest child, Chloe, at the time and upon learning of Shearer's transfer to the Manchester club, she let her husband know all about it.
During an episode of The Rest of Football, Shearer was asked his time at Blackburn. The 54-year-old grinned and recalled his wife's reaction to the town: "When she was eight months pregnant and looked at me in the car and said, 'What the f*** have you done?'"
Shearer has previously stated that Lainya is uncomfortable with the limelight which is often thrust upon her husband and prefers to keep herself away from the media's gaze.
Lainya was, however, brought up by Ruud Gullit during a recent interview. Gullit and Shearer endured a strained relationship while the former was in charge of Newcastle, particularly towards the end of his reign.
Gullit benched Shearer for a derby defeat to Sunderland at St James' Park in August 1999 and resigned three days' later. Shearer later admitted that a Magpies victory over the Black Cats would have likely seen him leave the club.
Gullit had led the club to an FA Cup final in his first season in charge, but the conflict with the striker came in the final days of his reign at St James' Park. The pair worked together in punditry after that, including for ITV at the 2014 World Cup for ITV, where Lainya made an admission to the former Netherlands international.
Gullit told the Sun: "The funny thing is that during the World Cup in Brazil in 2014, we were working together for ITV. We ended up at a party and we were just laughing together and drinking.
“Alan’s wife came over and said, ‘I cannot believe it... in our house, you were the No 1 guy we hated and now you two are laughing and joking with each other'. We’d met a lot of times in TV studios but that night we really got on so well. Sometimes you cannot agree but you can still respect one another."
Influencer daughters with famous boyfriends
Shearer has one son, Will, who is 24, and two daughters, Chloe, 31 and Hollie, 29.
All three have sizeable social media followings, with Will having 16,000, Chloe 18,000 and Hollie a whopping 81,000. Hollie has built a following due to her singing and musical releases as well has her presence on TikTok, where she has 335,000 followers.
Chloe, meanwhile, is in talent management and most recently worked on Soccer Aid.
Shearer's two daughters also have famous sporting boyfriends, too. Hollie's other half is England rugby player Joe Marchant. Marchant, 28, currently plays for French side Stade Francais.
Since the relationship began, Shearer, who previously said that his daughter has taken a keener interest in rugby, said his daughter had taken a keener interest in rugby than football. He previously joked - when asked about their relationship - that he's happy with his daughter's choice of man, saying: “I’m just glad it’s not a footballer."
Chloe, meanwhile, is dating ex-scrum-half Micky Young. The 35-year-old spent much of his time at Newcastle Falcons over two spells but left the North East club last year, spending his last year at Gloucester.
Falcons recently announced a testimonial for Young, during which one of the events will be a football dinner with Alan Shearer himself.
