Alanis Morissette is virtually unrecognizable with a pixie cut

Alanis Morissette, is that you?

The songstress, 43, who helped us unleash our angst in the ’90s enjoyed a rare public night out on the town, taking in Dear Evan Hansen on Broadway on Wednesday. But photos of her with a supershort new ’do and glasses made us pause a beat because it looks nothing like the Alanis we have always known.

The “You Oughta Know” singer’s signature long, wavy locks, which she would swing around when singing her fiery lyrics, are gone. Her short cut, still brown with hints of red, includes bangs swept to the side, and she has a chain on her glasses. But the sort of librarian look had an edge — you could see her tattoo poking out on one arm.

This isn’t the first time Morissette, who was accompanied by Souleye, with whom she has two children, has tinkered with her appearance. In 2014, she went blond, though her hair was still relatively long. Prior to that though, she was always known for the superlong, twisty, twirly locks, which came in handy when she got naked for her “Thank You” video.

Morissette’s brushing up on her theater comes ahead of the opening of Jagged Little Pill the musical. It’s based on her iconic album, with Morissette doing the music. The book was written by Diablo Cody. It opens May 5 and will run through July 15, at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, Mass., but it’s been rehearsing in NYC.

It will be a busy few months for the Grammy winner, who also has some tour dates — in the U.S. and internationally. But she looks ready to take on whatever is coming her way.
