Aldi shoppers issued 'do not eat' warning over allergy risk in popular lunchtime products
Aldi shoppers have been warned of a possible allergy risk in two popular soup products that could make them unsafe to eat.
The supermarket is recalling its Soupreme Creamy Chicken Soup and Specially Selected Pea and Ham Hock Soup because they may contain peanuts, which are not mentioned as an ingredient on the label. This means that the soups potentially pose a health hazard for anyone with an allergy to peanuts.
An update by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) issued on Saturday confirmed that only cartons with specific best before dates are affected: Soupreme Creamy Chicken Soup with a best before date of October 1, and Specially Selected Pea and Ham Hock Soup with a best before date of September 28. Customers can return these products to their nearest Aldi store to receive a full refund.
Aldi has also issued a point of sale notice informing customers of the possible allergy risk, which explains why the soups are being recalled and what to do if they have purchased them. "We apologise that this product did not meet our normal high standards and thank you for your co-operation," the supermarket said.
Shoppers can visit the Aldi Help Centre for more information, or can contact customer services on 800 042 0800.
