Singer and presenter Aled Jones has taken a step back from his work on the BBC as the broadcaster investigates an allegation against him.

Jones faces an allegation of inappropriate behaviour from a female colleague, but has strongly denied the claims.

"Although not related to any broadcast work, Aled voluntarily agreed not to go on the BBC whilst the matter is investigated," a spokesperson for Jones told the BBC.

"Whilst he accepts that his behaviour over a decade ago was occasionally juvenile, as was that of others, he never intended to harass or distress and he strongly denies any inappropriate contact.

"He is, however, deeply sorry for any upset caused and hopes this matter is resolved soon."

The BBC is not commenting on the story.

Aled Jones, who shot to fame at the age of 12 after his 1985 single 'Walking in the Air' reached the top five in the chart, presents Songs of Praise for the BBC and has also appeared on TV shows including Daybreak, Escape To The Country and Cash In The Attic.

He still continues to present his Sunday morning show on Classic FM.

News of the investigation into allegations against Jones follow reports that the BBC is actively investigating 25 sexual harassment claims.

While addressing the House of Commons' Digital, Culture, Media, Sport committee earlier this month, the BBC's Deputy Director General Anne Bulford said they were encouraging anyone impacted to step forward with information.

A BBC spokesperson added to Digital Spy: "Since the Harvey Weinstein revelations we've been actively encouraging staff to come forward with any concerns.

"We hope other employers are doing the same, and when allegations are made, we have well-established processes to investigate."
