Alex Jones took time out from her maternity leave on The One Show to make a very special announcement live on air on Monday (May 20).

Much like she did with the arrival of her son Teddy back in 2017, Alex called in to speak with Matt Baker and fill-in presenter Angela Scanlon to announced that she'd given birth to her second child.

"We're now a family of four," she revealed to huge applause. "He's really good! He was born last Monday morning, so we've had a lovely week.

"Just the four of us getting used to being a family of four, and introducing him to Teddy, which has really been a dream. I was really worried about that, but he's taken to it like a duck to water, being a big brother! He's being fantastic, really gentle with him!'

Alex and her husband Charlie Thomson have picked the name Kit for their newborn son - which will come as a big disappointment to their older boy Teddy.

"He thinks we're going to call the baby Thomas, after Thomas the Tank Engine," Alex admitted. "So, breaking the news that we're not actually going to call him Thomas is going to be quite tricky!"

Alex temporarily signed off of The One Show earlier this month after a touching on-air farewell from Matt, explaining that she's "looking forward to being just mama for a little while".

In her absence, The One Show has lined up Angela Scanlon, Angellica Bell, Stacey Dooley, Emma Willis, and Mel Giedroyc to fill in alongside Matt Baker until she's ready to come back in the autumn.

The One Show continues Mondays through Fridays at 7pm on BBC One.
