One Show host Alex Jones has revealed she presented the BBC show just an hour after learning she had suffered a miscarriage back in 2017.

The Welsh TV presenter had discovered she was pregnant while visiting New Zealand, the home country of her husband Charlie Thomson. The couple already has a ten-month old named Teddy at the time.

In an interview with The Times ‘Stella’ magazine she recalled the impact the devastating news had on her and her husband, 40-year-old insurance broker Charlie. She said: “It hit us like a ton of bricks. It’s really odd. You’re in that room looking for answers that you’re never going to get.

“You’re thinking, ‘have I done something wrong? What did I do differently? Was it because we flew a long way? Was I too stressed? Was I putting too much pressure on myself?’”

Alex went on to say that when she shared the news of the miscarriage with her boss at The One Show, they insisted she take time off work. However, Alex decided to film that night’s live show anyway.

She explained: “I said, ‘What else am I going to do?’ It’s a horrible feeling because it is so empty. There’s nothing to say. It’s done.”

Alex is currently seven months pregnant. She made an official announcement revealing the news live on The One Show at the end of last year, joking her bump wasn’t because she had been eating all the mince pies, but because she was expecting another child.

Last month, she encouraged other pregnant women to get checked if they have concerns about their unborn child. The 42-year-old wrote on Instagram: “Hadn’t felt much movement from the baby for a few days, so lying here being monitored. If in doubt mammas, ALWAYS check. So reassuring to hear the heartbeat.”
