Alex Jones welcomed top US comedy writer Tina Fey to The One Show sofa on Monday evening and managed to eke out a brilliant story about why the 30 Rock creator and star first was attracted to her husband, composer Jeff Richmond.

The Mean Girls writer was on the BBC show to talk about the musical version of her 2004 film hitting the West End when Alex turned her attention to the star's other half, who composed the show's music along with the theme tune of 30 Rock. Including fellow guest Sue Barker in the conversation, Alex said to Tina: "You mentioned your husband... I love this Sue (looking at Barker), apparently you said you really liked him because he had a 'Welsh face?'"

"Yeah," replied Fey. "He's of Welsh descent, look at him, that's a Welsh face," she continued as a picture of the two in their younger days flashed up for viewers to see.

Alex remarked that Tina's husband, looked like a "young Anthony Hopkins" and the US star agreed, before she said that now he had a big beard and "looked like Michael Sheen".

"You're going through all the Welshies, it'll be Tom Jones next," laughed Alex.

Tina actually cast Port Talbot star Sheen in the fourth series of 30 Rock as her character Liz Lemon's boyfriend Wesley Snipes. As well as 30 Rock, Tina is known for her work on Saturday Night Live where she made history as head writer. She's from Philadelphia's Upper Darby neighbourhood which is a stone's throw from the city's Welsh-named neighbourhoods like Narberth, Bala Cynwyd and Bryn Mawr - which might explain her knowledge of the "Welsh" look! Pennsylvania saw an influx of Welsh immigrants in the 17th century.
