Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain still desires to be a central midfielder despite his recent move to wing-back at Arsenal, adding he has "always wanted to be Steven Gerrard".

The 23-year-old has been deployed in a number of positions by Arsene Wenger this season, but has started just twice in his preferred position.

Arsenal move to a three-man defence in the final weeks of the season saw Oxlade-Chamberlain take up a wing-back role, starting the FA Cup Final on the left-hand side, but does not see a permanent position change in the future.

"Playing for a team like Arsenal, it ends up being more of a right-wing job," Oxlade-Chamberain told BT Sport of his position.

"I get the ball from deeper and the plays into my hands more.

"At the end of the day, it’s given me minutes and I'm not one to complain.

"But, the centre-mid role... I’ve always wanted to be Steven Gerrard, so I’ve still got a hope of that!"
