The suspended boss of the firm at the centre of the Facebook data scandal was today accused of lying to MPs.

Psychologist Dr Aleksandr Kogan, a Cambridge University researcher, made the claim against Alexander Nix, who has been suspended as chief executive of Cambridge Analytica (CA).

At a Commons committee hearing, Dr Kogan undermined suggestions from Mr Nix that CA had not received data from Dr Kogan’s commercial firm Global Science Research.

Committee chairman Damian Collins pressed him: “So as far as you are concerned he lied.”

Dr Kogan replied: “Absolutely.”

The committee has recalled Mr Nix after alleging that evidence he gave to its fake news inquiry previously contained “inconsistencies”.

CA has been accused of using Facebook data, without users’ informed consent, for political purposes.
