Alexandra Burke has discussed the difficult time she experienced while competing on Strictly Come Dancing.

During an appearance on Good Morning Britain today (January 24), the star told Susanna Reid and Kate Garraway that she was affected by stories that were sold to the tabloids, which claimed she was a diva backstage and tough to work with.

Looking back, she admitted that the false accusations may have had an impact on how people perceived her.

"I think it possibly could have had an effect on how people viewed me – I'm not sure about winning [Strictly] because I think Joe [McFadden] is amazing and he definitely deserved it," she said.

"At the end of the day, those who know me know the truth. You guys have met me several times so you know the truth. I just have to take it all with a pinch of salt, really."

The former X Factor winner had been the favourite to take home the Glitterball Trophy.

But as more and more inaccurate stories were printed about her alleged tantrums backstage, the odds of her winning decreased.

Although she did make it to the final as expected, she finished as a runner-up in the competition.

Commenting on the rumours that were spread about her, Alexandra added: "Unfortunately, to read those kinds of things, it is very upsetting – but I'm such a positive person. In any situation, I will always find a positive outlook on it. It's always good to be that kind of way.

"Yes, it was hard to read certain things and a lot of things, they were all untrue. But you know, at the end of the day, it didn't take away from the fact that I had an amazing time on Strictly. My experience was out of this world."

The star is currently taking part in the national Strictly Come Dancing live tour with her fellow finalists.

And despite the drama she went through while on the show, she admitted she's gutted her Strictly experience is going to be over soon.

She continued: "The tour is amazing and I just don't want this to end. It's a shame it's going to end in a couple of weeks but yeah, I've had a good time and I can't let that negativity turn over what's been so great!"

In other news, Alexandra recently confirmed her engagement to long-term boyfriend Josh Ginnelly.

During her appearance on GMB, she showed off her gorgeous diamond ring as she revealed how her fiancé popped the question.

"It was literally two days after the Strictly final," she said. "I got woken up at 4am, he said 'Pack your bag, you're going to Paris'. I was like, 'Wow, this is amazing'. I definitely didn't expect that to happen at all. We're both very, very happy."

Good Morning Britain is on ITV, weekdays at 6am.
