"I just wanted to say another goodbye and thank you to everyone at Coronation Street," she said in the video message.

Mardell added: "I miss you so much already. Thank you to all the fans for being so supportive over the last four years and looking after Emma.

"I really have had the best time of my life and I'm so, so grateful. So thank you for having me, goodbye for now and lots of love."

Friday's episode of Coronation Street saw Emma make the decision to leave the UK and head to Australia with boyfriend Jon, despite breaking up with him earlier in the week in an attempt to conceal her involvement in his grandfather's death.

Emma later confessed to Jon that she and Faye were driving the car which hit the elderly man during New Year festivities.

Mardell has received awards recognition in numerous places for her portrayal of Emma, including winning the 2019 British Soap Award for Best Newcomer.

The star has hinted to Digital Spy in recent weeks that, despite her exit, she is not closing the door on a potential return in the future.
