Alexandra Palace's socially distanced Kaleidoscope festival has been cancelled

The socially distanced version of Alexandra Palace’s Kaleidoscope festival has been cancelled less than three weeks after it was announced.

Kaleidoscope… Unlocked was set to take place on August 30 and feature performances from Norman Jay MBE and DJ Yoda.

In a statement, organisers said: “We worked extremely hard on a number of options to deliver the event, with the relevant authorities recognising the high standards we were working towards.

“However, in this challenging and ever-changing situation, it’s not been possible to present this particular event in a way that doesn’t compromise the audiences’ experience.”

Organisers thanked all those who had registered interest in the event, as well as “the artists who were on hand ready to entertain everyone”.

They added: “We’ve already begun the process of planning and creating future music events. The learning from this process will be really valuable, so we hope to see you all again soon.”

It’s the latest blow to London’s live music scene, which has been ravaged by the pandemic, forcing cancellations of every major festival in the city.

Outdoor concerts are currently permitted under Government restrictions, as long as audiences are socially distanced, although indoor gigs are still off limits until “at least” August 15.
