Alicia Vikander lit up the red carpet in Los Angeles as she launched the new Tomb Raider franchise in the US.

The Swedish star, 29, wore a patterned dress for the premiere at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood on Monday night.

It is the third stop on a red carpet tour which began in London six days ago and has also taken in Mexico City.

Vikander, who won an Oscar for her role in The Danish Girl, has taken over the Tomb Raider mantle from Angelina Jolie, who played the character in 2001 and then again in 2003.

She previously told Lorraine Kelly that this year had been the “happiest of her life” following her Oscar win for the Danish Girl and 2017 marriage to fellow actor Michael Fassbender.

“I’ve had definitely, maybe the most happy year,” she said. “I carry a smile on my face I think most of the time.”

“It’s a lovely thing. It’s a nice thing to choose to be private even though you have the job you do.”
