A 7,500-acre brush fire in Picayune Strand State Forest stood at 50 percent contained on Thursday, March 9. Authorities re-opened the stretch of I-75 known as Alligator Alley and lifted mandatory evacuations on Wednesday, according to local reports.

While the road was re-opened, there still was concern about smoke and visibility, a report said. The road, which connects Florida’s east and west coasts, had been shut down on Tuesday as the fire burned.

Carl Barnowski, who took these videos, said he was driving one of the last cars that was able to get through before Interstate 75 was shut down. His videos show the smoke and the fire burning on the side of the road. Credit: YouTube/Carl Barnowski via Storyful
