Altercation breaks out in Coventry as National Express buses 'diverted'

Police said they spoke to a number of people following reports of an 'altercation' in Coventry. It happened on Broadgate.

Officers were called to the incident at around 10.30am on Sunday (September 8). Trinity Street, Ironmonger Row, Cross Cheaping and the Burges were closed off, National Express said on X.

Buses, including the 20, 5, 7 and the X1 had to be diverted. Paramedics also attended the scene, West Midlands Ambulance Service said.

Crews administered treatment to a man before he was taken to University Hospital Coventry in Walsgrave. Officers spoke to a number of people at the scene, but no arrests were made, West Midlands Police said.

In a statement issued yesterday (September 13), West Midlands Police said: “We were called following reports of an altercation on Broadgate in Coventry. Officers spoke to a number of people at the scene, but no one was arrested.”

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We were called to an incident on Trinity Street at 10.31am on Sunday (September 8). Crews discovered a man who, following treatment at the scene, was transported to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire for further assessment.”
