It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia season 15 premiere to set TV record

The premiere date for season 15 of It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia has been announced.

Next month, the series will become the longest-running live-action comedy show in television history, surpassing the previous record set by The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet.

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia will return with the first two episodes from the new eight-episode run which will see Mac (Rob McElhenney), Charlie (Charlie Day), Dennis (Glenn Howerton), Dee (Kaitlin Olson), and Frank (Danny DeVito) navigating the coronavirus pandemic, among other storylines.

FX shared the news today (November 6) by allowing the aforementioned makers of It’s Always Sunny… make the announcement in the voice of the show.

The statement began: "10:00 PM… On a Wednesday… In Ireland…"

"The record-breaking 15th season of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia is its most ambitious yet. In the seismic wake of Covid-19 and all things 2020, The Gang stands at a crossroads in this strange new world.

"The rules are changing quicker than anyone can keep up with, despite herculean efforts from [the central cast] to continue business as usual. Now, they must face the music and decide who they'll become in the cultural upheaval that is 2021.

"Across the span of eight episodes – and the Atlantic Ocean – we find them answer in a way only they could think to."

The announcement continued to delve into further detail about what fans can expect from the next season and celebrated its record-breaking feat.

"Oh, and did we mention this is season 15? Sunny now breaks the record and becomes the longest-running live-action sitcom of all time…"

The statement concluded: "So, raise that snifter and cheers: To Sunny! Yes, it burns a little, and that's what you want."

It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia season 15 will premiere on FXX on December 1 and will stream the next day on FX on Hulu.
