Football fans were in heaven at the AO Arena after England booked their place in the finals of the Euros. Thousands gathered in the UK's biggest fanzone as the Three Lions faced the Netherlands in the Borussia Dortmund Stadium.

The excitement was palpable but England's performances so far meant that there were some nerves too as fans filled the seats in the venue with minutes to go before kick off. As the starting 11 was announced the heroes of this tournament received the biggest cheers with Man United’s Mainoo drawing the biggest.

However, Arsenal's Bukayo Saka also got a very warm reception thanks to his heroics on Saturday. While England fan Mike was nervous ahead of kick off, he predicted that England would be 2-1 winners with Kane to get on the scoresheet.

He told the MEN: “I’m hoping Saka scores too, but that’s my heart speaking more than my head.” He said. But when asked about his nerves he conceded: “I’m sh***ing it mate!”

Friends Tyla and Lauren were feeling much more confident than Mike however. Tyla told the MEN that she was “buzzing” for the game and predicted a 3-2 win. While Lauren thought England would wipe the floor with Netherlands scoring 4 goals

In the end it was a tale of two halves. Netherlands stunned the arena into silence when they took the lead with Xavi Simon's first goal.

The mood was lifted soon after England were awarded a conspicuous penalty which captain Harry Kane slotted. The second half was tense and frustrating after Netherland made changes and stifled England.

That was until Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins etched his name into history with a last minute winner after coming off the bench. Fans were delirious, tops were off, beers in the air and tables were stood on as they sang themselves well into the night.

Reeling off the historic win that puts England within arms reach of the elusive Euro cup, one supporter said: "I'm over the f*****g moon! I am not going home tonight."
