Amanda Abbington is in talks to join 'Strictly Come Dancing'.

The 49-year-old 'Sherlock' actress is considering competing in the upcoming series of the BBC dance show as it is an ambition of hers before she turns 50.

Amanda has two children with ex-husband Martin Freeman, who she split from in 2016, and is engaged to escapologist Jonathan Goodwin, who was left paralysed in 2021 after a stunt on 'America’s Got Talent: Extreme' went wrong.

A source told The Sun newspaper: "Amanda has had a rough ride over the past seven years and just recently has she come out the other side.

“The accident only brought Amanda and Jonathan closer together and she’s keen to start a whole new chapter in her life.

“Part of that is taking part in 'Strictly' because it’s a long-held ambition of hers and one she is on track to fulfil before her milestone 50th birthday next year.”

While Amanda has no interest in most reality TV shows, ruling out an appearance on 'I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!', she has long been vocal about her desire to compete on 'Strictly'.

Speaking previously to The Independent, she said: "Why would you want to be in the jungle for three weeks and eat testicles with Joey Essex for money? It's like going back to Bedlam, watching people doing horrible things for entertainment.

"The only thing I'd love to do is 'Strictly Come Dancing'. I love the idea of learning something. This is an official application. But I'm sure me being on it would be its downfall. The curse of Amanda Abbington strikes again!"
