Amanda Holden was able to take a bizarre trip down memory lane during her latest Heart Breakfast show, when her co-host tracked down her first boyfriend - 30 years after they last saw each other.

Jamie Theakston, who presents the new programme with Holden, said a listener had got in touch after the Britain’s Got Talent judge told the story of her first boyfriend.

“Lovely Clifford Culver,” she said. “When I was nine, I danced with him in Bishop’s Waltham Church Hall.”

Theakston announced that a listener had reached out to say they had dated a man with that name, who was now living in Gosport, Hampshire.

He then added he had a mobile number, prompting the 48-year-old to exclaim: “Oh my god. My tummy is turning over.”

When Clifford answered the call, revealing a soft-spoken man with a beard, he confirmed it was “definitely” him who danced with Amanda almost 40 years ago.

Holden immediately commented on Clifford’s beard, saying he looked “like Tom Hanks in Cast Away, in a good way”.

She revealed that she still had a recorder with her name engraved on it that Clifford brought back from a holiday to Romania.

The presenter and her former beau shared memories of a date to an ice rink in Southampton, before Clifford was asked why the relationship broke down.

He said: “I tried my very best but she upped and left. But things all worked out.”

Clifford revealed he is now in “a very happy relationship” and working in sales, as well as volunteering for charity Surfers Against Sewage.

He admitted it is sometimes “surreal” to see the success and fame Holden has had since they met as children.
