Heart Radio's Amanda Holden has encouraged listeners to seek medical advice if they have any health concerns, following her co-host Jamie Theakston's cancer diagnosis.

Jamie, 53, revealed on Instagram today that he has been diagnosed with stage one Laryngeal cancer after a biopsy was conducted on a lesion found on his vocal cords.

On Heart Breakfast this morning, Amanda, 53, and Jamie's stand-in host JK, 49, paid tribute to their colleague and read out messages of support from listeners.

"I know he's listening today so I know he'll take great comfort in this," the Britain's Got Talent judge expressed.

JK then told Amanda: "Also, can I just say that Jamie would like to thank you, because you showed some concerns on text for his voice," reports the Express.

Acknowledging her concern, she responded: "You prompted him, that, and his wife nagging.

"You know what boys are like they never seem to want to go the doctors.

"My husband is the same, he sends us all off to the doctors, he never goes himself."

In light of Jamie's news, she emphasised how important it is to get checked out early if you or a loved one are concerned about a health issue.

"If there is anything bothering you at the moment, I think that'll be the message that Jamie would want to get across," she shared.

"If there is anything you're bothered about, anything that doesn't feel right, don't be scared, get it sorted out."

JK added that Jamie's prognosis was "very positive" and that he has "an amazing team" who were taking care of him.

"He's going to be okay, he's hoping to be back with us very soon," he said.

"You know what Jamie's like as well, Jamie has been on this show for 20 years. He's done this show for a long time. This show is all about feel good, it's all about having a good time.

"It's making sure that you go to work, or whatever you're doing in the morning, going there with a smile and he does not want that to change."

In his own words released via social media, Jamie expressed his hope of returning to broadcasting in October.

He remarked: "Until then, I've been told to give my voice a rest and leave you in the mostly capable hands of JK and Amanda.

"A huge thank-you to them and the Global Family for their incredible support.

"Be thankful for this day, and when I see you next, I'll have a great story to tell... Jamie x".
