Amandla Stenberg showed off grown-out armpit hair on the red carpet last night.

The 19-year-old actor, who identifies as non-binary and prefers to be referred to as ‘they/them’, took to the red carpet for the London premiere of their latest film, ‘The Hate U Give’.

Amandla wore a black, plunging Valentino gown and proudly displayed their bushy armpits in the sleek gown.

The unshaved armpits – thick braids and boyish brows – added a youthful, care-free tone to Amandla’s sophisticated outfit, and frankly, if they want to rock grown-out body hair, why not?

However, not everyone is down with armpit hair, which has proved to be a polarising look for women, although not for men.

While one in four 16-24 years old women are said to forgo shaving their armpits, according to The Telegraph, many others are opposed to growing it out. Meanwhile, some 68 per cent of men trim their armpit hair, according to Men’s Health, it is unknown how many actually shave it all off.

Being non-binary, Amandla does not identify with either gender, so their choice should be viewed outside these gender norms.

Amandla addressed the ‘drama’ their armpits caused in an Instagram post to their 1.9 million followers, which they hashtagged #drama and #armpit.

One of their followers wrote: “Why are people pretending to like armpit hair, armpit hair looks good on no one.”

However, others were fully supportive, with one comment reading: “Are u rocking hairy armpits??? YES!! COOL!!”.

Amandla’s not the only celebrity opting for underarm fuzz. Bella Thorne displayed inches of armpit hair recently while on the red carpet for the premiere of their new film, ‘I Still See You’.

They also joined the likes of millennial cool girls such as Miley Cyrus and Jemima Kirke, other celebrities who are proud to show off their decision to throw out the razor.
