Amazon Autos allows shoppers to buy Hyundai cars online: How it works
It seems like you can buy everything on Amazon and that now includes cars.
The global online retailer announced Tuesday that vehicle shoppers in some U.S. cities can "browse, order, finance, and schedule pickup of a new Hyundai vehicle from their local participating dealer directly on Amazon."
While the service is currently limited to 48 cities such as New York, Atlanta, Salt Lake City, Miami, San Antonio, Washington D.C., San Francisco, Seattle and Tampa, Amazon Autos plans to add more Hyundai dealerships and roll out additional manufacturers, brands and cities next year.
Amazon said the new feature will give customers "a simple, end-to-end online experience" to purchase a car, allowing shoppers to:
Browse and search for available vehicles at their local dealer by make, model, trim, color and features.
Get an instant valuation and trade in their existing vehicle toward the price of the new car by answering questions about the vehicle’s condition. The value, which is provided by an independent third-party, can then be applied toward the purchase price of their new car.
See transparent, upfront pricing eliminating the need for negotiation. The price customers see at check-out is the price they pay, inclusive of all taxes and fees.
Secure financing or pay in full.
Complete the checkout process online.
Schedule a pick-up time at the dealership.
Amazon Autos is not the only one offering car purchases online. Tesla also gives buyers the option to make their purchases online and have their new vehicle delivered. Caravana has a wide variety of car models to choose from online by manufacturers including Audi, BMW, Cadillac, Kia, Honda and Nissan.

Amazon 'redesigning' car shopping
“We’re partnering with dealers and brands to redesign car shopping—making it more transparent, convenient, and customer-friendly," global head of Amazon Autos Fan Jin said in a statement. "With Amazon Autos, we’re bringing the simplicity and ease customers expect from Amazon to car shopping, one of their largest purchases, while offering dealers a new channel to connect with a broad audience."
Jin said the company is thrilled to have Hyundai as their "exclusive launch partner and look forward to welcoming more brands and expanding our selection to customers as the program grows."
The new program will not just benefit buyers, Amazon said, but will also give dealers the opportunity to connect with millions of Amazon customers and streamline the process of selling cars.
Buying a car on Amazon
Customers wishing to purchase a car on Amazon, can search available vehicles from local participating dealers by visiting amazon.com/autos, searching "Amazon Autos" on Amazon.com, or through the mobile app. The process of browsing and choosing a vehicle is similar to shopping other products on the Amazon store "with familiar features like customer reviews and seller (dealership) reviews," Amazon said.
Once a vehicle is selected, customers can complete the preliminary paperwork online and secure financing, before placing their order. Once the order is placed and payment finalized, customers can choose a day and time to pick up their new car from that local dealership.
At the dealership, customers complete the process by dropping off their trade-in when picking up their new vehicle.
