Amazon Fire HD Kids Edition Is The Maker's First Tablet For Children
The rugged tablet is designed for kids aged 3 and up
The Amazon Fire HD Kids Edition tablet has been designed with children in mind and comes with a free two-year warranty - if anything happens to it, Amazon will replace it for free.
The child-friendly tablet will include the new Fire for Kids Unlimited offering access to books, videos, educational apps and games.
The new service only contains content that has been pre-screened so that it is age appropriate, while all in-app payments, ads and social media have been removed so there's no danger of running up a huge bill.
The all-in-one subscription service will cost £1.99 per child or £4.99 a month (for up to four children). However, a free one-month trial is available and those who buy the new Fire HD Kids Edition tablet will get the service free for a year.
Built-in parental controls on the new gadget make it easy to set usage limits as well as educational goals.
The tablet sports a brightly coloured kid-proof casing and packs a fast quad-core processor along with an HD display, front and rear cameras and Dolby Audio.
European Director of the Family Online Safety Institute, Dave Miles, said: “We are excited to see this product released in the UK and commend Amazon for its efforts in building something with parents’ needs and safety in mind. Amazon’s attention to parental controls and the screen time balance makes Fire for Kids an ideal service to help families while teaching their children to use technology responsibly.”
Fire The Amazon Fire HD Kids Edition costs £119 for the 8GB model and £139 for the 16GB version, and is available for pre-order now. It will be ready to buy from 18 June.
