Retail giant Amazon has started one-hour alcohol deliveries for customers in Seattle as part of its Prime Now service.

The Prime Now mobile app is available exclusively to subscribers of the company’s Prime service and enables those in Amazon’s hometown to get one-hour delivery on a wide range of groceries, including booze.

The service is available from 8am to midnight, seven days a week.

Two-hour deliveries are free, while one-hour deliveries carry a charge of $7.99 (£6.99 in the UK).

“Prime Now is our fastest delivery option ever. With Prime Now, you can skip a trip to the store and get the items you need delivered right to your door in under an hour,” said Stephenie Landry, director of Amazon’s Prime Now service.

“Customers love the convenience of one-hour delivery and we’re excited to bring Prime Now to our hometown customers in Seattle and surrounding areas.”

Initially launching in select Seattle, Bellevue, Redmond and Kirkland zip codes, the speedy delivery service is set to expand rapidly, says Amazon.

The free app is available for iOS, Android and Amazon’s Kindle Fire tablet.

The company first launched the Prime Now service last year in a small selection of U.S. cities including New York, and it has since launched in London.

However, this is the first time that Amazon has included alcohol in its one-hour delivery service.

There’s no word yet on when the one-hour booze deliveries will be added to the UK Prime Now service.

Amazon Prime is a subscriber service that costs £79 a year and entitles members to one-delivery as well as free postage. Subscribers also get access to the Prime Instant Video streaming service which offers over 15,000 movies and TV shows.
