Watch: Amazon parcel thief caught stealing packages from apartment block communal area

This is the moment a brazen thief walked into a luxury apartment block and stole a stash of Amazon parcels.

The woman was caught on CCTV checking out several boxes before scooping them up and walking out of The Atrium apartment block in Nottingham.

The footage shows the woman, dressed in black joggers and a black jacket, walk into a communal area before sizing up the waiting parcels.

She can be seen checking out one Amazon parcel and stacking it onto two others before walking away, struggling to carry the stolen goods.

A Citizens Advice survey published last month found 36% of online shoppers in the UK experienced a delivery issue in the last month, such as parcels left in insecure locations. And with Christmas just round the corner, online deliveries are rising.

The Police.UK website offers a number of tips to guard against what it says is a "growing trend of theft of items left unattended by delivery drivers". They include:

  • tracking your parcel to ensure you or someone else is at home for the delivery

  • installing a video doorbell so you are notified immediately of any delivery

  • installing a security light

  • arranging for your parcel to be delivered to a trusted neighbour, or other family members who will be at home

  • using an off-site locker service for frequent deliveries, or for expensive items, as "these parcel boxes are more likely to be in busy, safer locations - such as supermarkets - rather than secluded areas which could be targeted by thieves"
