Amazon unveils its own game streaming service called Luna

Amazon has unveiled plans to release its own game streaming service, which will allow subscribers to play certain titles via app or online browser instantly, and without the need for a console.

The platform – which has yet to confirm an official launch date is called Amazon Luna, and will reportedly be available on Fire TV, PC, and Mac as well as iOS and Android. As of today (Friday, September 25), US customers can request early access over on its official landing page.

"No waiting for lengthy downloads or updates — just play," the site reads. If consumers opt for early access, they'll have the opportunity to sign up for the Luna+ game channel, which features games such as Resident Evil 7, Control, A Plague Tale: Innocence, Iconoclasts and Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons for an introductory price of $5.99 a month.

"We created Luna to make it easy to play great games on the devices customers already own and love," Marc Whitten, vice president of Amazon Entertainment Devices and Services, explained during the announcement.

"It's day one for Luna—we are excited to work with gamers, streamers, and publishers like Ubisoft and Remedy Entertainment to build a great gaming experience for everyone."

Elsewhere, Amazon also announced that it has entered into a deal with Ubisoft, and will host a channel that'll include some of the developer's most hotly anticipated outings, like Assassin's Creed Valhalla and Immortals Fenyx Rising. More channels are set to be revealed in the coming weeks.

"We're proud to be working alongside Amazon on Luna, utilising the power of cloud gaming to provide our players with another way to access our games, wherever they are," added Chris Early, SVP of Partnerships and Revenue, Ubisoft.

"[Our] channel on Luna will allow players to experience our new releases along with many of our catalogue games, while enjoying player-friendly features like Alexa and Twitch integrations."
