We’ve big news for binge watchers: Amazon is about to launch a new Fire TV streaming stick that offers slicker menu navigation, faster app launching and compatibility with Wi-Fi 6, the next generation of wireless in-home networking.

It’s called Fire TV Stick 4K Max, and it’s available to preorder on Amazon for £54.99 right now, before launching on 7 October.

If you’ve noticed that your current streaming gizmo is plodding to use, or unable to take advantage of the speeds your latest Wi-Fi router is capable of, then this is the upgrade you’ve been waiting for. Here are five reasons why you should buy one...

It’s feature packed and easy to use

Amazon has made big changes to the Fire TV user experience over the past year, all for the better. If you’re new to Fire TV, you’re in for a treat. Slotting into a spare HDMI input on your telly, this stick is stacked with features. In addition to Prime Video, users have arguably the most extensive choice of streaming apps available.

In addition to the big guns, like Disney+, Netflix, Britbox and Now, there are all the main catch-up TV services and countless other specialist streaming services, from Tidal music to UFC Fight Pass.

It supports 4K Dolby Vision HDR video with cinematic audio

TV shows and movies are all delivered in the highest quality, providing your network connection is up to snuff, and your TV and sound system isn’t out of the ark. The stick supports Ultra HD 4k along with multiple HDR standards (Dolby Vision, HDR 10, HDR10+), and Dolby Atmos cinematic audio. AV fans will love this.

It’s Wi-Fi 6 ready

The Fire TV 4k Max is the first Amazon Fire TV device to support Wi-Fi 6. This sounds super nerdy but is significant. If you have one of the latest Wi-Fi6 routers from the likes of Asus, Netgear or TP Link, you’ll benefit from a far more robust connection that’s able to stream multiple 4k streams at the same time. This means you can run two 4k Max sticks in different rooms at the highest quality simultaneously.

It’s backwards compatible

Even if you haven’t yet upgraded your HD TV, the Fire TV 4K Max will work with what you have - and even if your network isn’t Wi-Fi 6 enabled yet, it’s good to be future-ready.

The processor is lightning fast

The silicon in this new Fire TV 4K Max is said to be 40% more powerful than what we’ve seen in the standard Fire TV Stick 4K. This means apps will launch faster, and you’ll be able to scoot around the screen without the occasional stutter.

Even if you already have a smart TV with built-in streaming apps, it makes sense to upgrade your system with this new gadget.

We’re excited about the Fire TV 4K Max. You should be too.
