Amber weather warning as five days of freezing cold forecast for Essex
A cold weather alert has been issued ahead of snow showers and freezing temperatures arriving across Essex. The alert, which covers all of England, came into force this morning, and people are encouraged to look out for vulnerable people.
The Met Office and UKHSA are warning that all of the south-east will experience cold weather from 10am today (November 18) to 6pm on Saturday (November 23). They claim that cold air will spread across the country.
As a result, a yellow cold weather alert has been issued, with the potential of a weather warning to be implemented within the coming days. Forecast weather is likely to have minor impacts on health and social care services, including an increased use of healthcare services by vulnerable people and greater risk to life of vulnerable people.

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has also issued a rare Amber alert for cold weather across a number of regions as temperatures drop to freezing conditions. The alert, which is in force from 10am today until 6pm on Saturday, covers the North East, North West, Yorkshire and The Humber, East Midlands, West Midlands and East of England.
A Yellow alert for cold weather has also been issued across London, the South East and the South West. This is also in force until Saturday.
