It remains unknown when Leeds United will begin work to redevelop Elland Road. Modernising their home ground has long been on the club's agenda, long before owners 49ers Enterprises took control of the Championship club in the summer of 2023.

More than a week has passed since the Whites laid out their ambitious Elland Road redevelopment plans. United want to increase the arena’s capacity by 15,355 to 53,000 to make it the country’s seventh-largest club ground.

Reports in the national media have suggested work will only commence on their iconic stadium after United have secured promotion back to the Premier League. They are currently fifth in the Championship ahead of tonight's televised trip to Sunderland.

Twenty six thousand supporters on a waiting list to secure season tickets at Elland Road. No images have yet to be released of their expansion plans, but ex-Everton chief Keith Wyness believes United could bank an extra £12m in revenue per season after the work has been carried out.

He told Football Insider: “It’s going to take time, and planning will need to be approved. I understand the council are very favourable towards this because it’s not a new stadium build.

“What it would mean revenue-wise, is an uplift of around £500-600k per game. Over the season, it’s about £10-12million. That makes a lot of difference.

“Part of the problem they’ll have is doing things as Liverpool did, building the new seats while games are going on. There will be a loss of revenue for that time while construction goes on.

“I’d love to see Leeds with a proper stadium, they are a big club with a big waiting list. They need to get this done, so we’ll see how long the process is going to take.”
