Ambulance carrying emergency patient crashes on Leicester road
An ambulance carrying an emergency patient was involved in a collision in Leicester this evening (Saturday, September 14). The emergency ambulance is said to have collided with another vehicle on Melton Road near the junction with Watermead Way in Thurmaston.
The patient was transported to hospital in another ambulance following the incident. No information has been released about injuries suffered by the patient, crew or other vehicle, if any, in the crash.
A spokesperson for East Midlands Ambulance Service said: "At around 20:30 on 14 September 2024, a double crewed ambulance was involved in a collision with another vehicle at the junction of A46/A607 in Leicester while conveying a patient to Leicester Royal Infirmary.

"We dispatched an ambulance to provide onward travel for the patient, as well as two additional ambulances and a Duty Commander to respond to patients on scene. Two people were conveyed from the scene to Leicester Royal Infirmary.”
The collision forced the closure of the busy Leicester road in both directions. Leicestershire Police shut down both city-bound and county-bound lanes of Melton Road near the crash site.
