After 20 years away from the small screen, Sacha Baron Cohen is back on the box with a brand new satirical sketch show.

The seven-part series – which sees the comedian secretly film over in America - has been kept firmly under wraps, with the first clips only emerging this morning.

The clips, posted on Cohen’s Instagram, showed him going undercover for the programme but faced criticism for their content, including a comment about rape.

What is Who Is America?

The brand new Channel 4 show features the Ali G comedian out and about in America, covertly exploring issues from across the socio-political landscape from gun control to immigration.

Network Showtime – who broadcast the show in the States – promised that the show will showcase Cohen “as he’s never been seen before”.

Cohen will assume several different personas over the seven episodes, each gaining access to political figures.

Who is Sacha Baron Cohen?

The British actor, comedian, writer and producer has made his name creating and producing parody characters including Borat and Ali G.

Cohen, 46, in married to actress Isla Fisher with whom he has three children, Olive, 10, Elula, seven and Montgomery, three.

When is Who Is America?

The new Channel 4 programme begins Monday 16 July at 10pm on Channel 4, airing weekly.
