Arthur Collins 'feared for Ferne McCann's career' following acid attack

In April of this year, TOWIE star Ferne McCann’s boyfriend, Arthur Collins, was arrested in relation to an acid attack in Mangle nightclub in Hackney, East London, which left many revellers with serious, life-changing injuries.

Now 25-year-old Arthur has claimed that he feared for his girlfriend’s career once he realised the gravity of the incident, with Ferne – who was pregnant with his baby at the time – immediately distancing herself from him.

Speaking at Arthur’s trial at Wood Green Crown Court, his defence lawyer, George Carter-Stephenson, said: “Can you imagine what he must have felt like, with that realisation he was responsible for throwing acid?

“There are reports of people partially blinded. Can you imagine the panic, the sort of fear? Is it any wonder he was trying to get his head straight?

“There he is, a young man with a partner who is expecting. And a partner who is in the media.

“And so that is something that is going to attract attention. And bad attention, potentially, for her.

“As time goes on, it gets worse. He told you, he has never felt so scared.”

Arthur sparked a nationwide manhunt when he went on the run after the attack, with Carter-Stephenson going on to claim that Arthur had planned to hand himself in the day after he was arrested.

He told the court: “It is a young man in turmoil, in fear, not knowing what to do for the best.

“Not knowing what impact it’s going to have on his partner and her career, and all the other things that go with it.”

Arthur has admitted to throwing the substance but insists that he didn’t know what it was when he did so, denying five counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, and nine counts of actual bodily harm.

Earlier this month, Ferne gave birth to her and Arthur’s child, revealing that she had called the newborn ‘Sunday’ in a sweet Instagram photo.

The reality star previously vowed to raise their baby alone, disassociating herself from Arthur and issuing a public apology for his alleged crime.
