A farmer shot a millionaire’s two dogs dead after they killed six of his sheep and caused injuries so bad to another eight that they had to be put down.

The alsatian and akita cross reportedly escaped from a nearby mansion owned by hedge fund manager David Kowitz before attacking sheep on Frank Langrish’s farm in East Sussex.

Mr Langrish and one of his shepherds shot the dogs as they ran loose after the attack, before loading them into a Land Rover and drove them back to Mr Kowitz’s home, Fairlight Hall, where they confronted him.

Mr Langrish told The Times he had taken the dead dogs back to send the American owner a message because locals in the area had been ‘living in fear’ of his dogs.

He said: “We know he has been responsible over the last few years for various dog attacks in that area.”

Mr Kowitz has reportedly apologised, blaming guests for letting the dogs loose.

He said: “Our containment system failed on a night of major activity at the house — and before we could complete our plans to rehome the dogs. We keep dogs for our security but failed you by not ensuring they were not mistakenly released by house guests. Our sincere apologies.”

A previous incident involving the dogs in 2012 led to two of Mr Kowitz’s alsatians being put down after killing 23 sheep.

Sussex police has reportedly said it is not taking action against Mr Kowitz because the dogs responsible for the sheep attacks were dead.
