Why people moaning about Chris Evans on the new Top Gear annoy me.

Okay, so all I’m hearing about Top Gear is that it’s getting bad ratings, Chris Evans is an awful presenter and Joey from ‘Friends’ doesn’t get on with him etc. etc. But if I’m honest this is starting to get on my nerves a little bit.

I’ve seen a couple of episodes of the new Top Gear and to be honest it really doesn’t deserve the criticism and negativity that it is getting, it’s simply not that bad. Matt LeBlanc is excellent, Chris Harris is also very good and as always it has excellent cars, excellent driving and fantastic competitions/sketches.

Yes, Chris Evans isn’t the show’s strongest link, him throwing up after driving a bit fast was comical and yes, all he seems to do is shout and awkwardly interact with the rest of his co-hosts and guest celebrities but again, he’s nowhere near as bad and as show-ruining as people are making him out to be.

I can also agree that this version of Top Gear is nothing like the Top Gear that was helmed by Clarkson, May and Hammond. But sadly Jeremy Clarkson did strike his own boss and no-one, not even him, can get away with that. This Top Gear was never going to be the same without them, it was never going to have the wit and chemistry those three men had, because they’d been doing it for a long, long time.

I fully expect that Matt LeBlanc and Chris Evans and Chris Harris and Sabine and everyone else will improve over time, they will start developing chemistry and the show will get better. But, if they don’t improve it’s still fundamentally a show about fantastic cars and fantastic sketches about cars and it still has both of those things in spades.

The media, fans of Top Gear and pretty much anyone else needs to stop laying into the show, they need to stop comparing it the Top Gear that we’re all used to and they need to just sit back and enjoy the cars and everything else will get better over time.
