Amy Dowden hospital staff issue touching message after Strictly Come Dancing return
Hospital staff who treated Strictly Come Dancing’s Amy Dowden have issued a touching message wishing her all the best after she returned to the show. The fan favourite professional dancer was forced to miss the last series after undergoing treatment for breast cancer.
Viewers told how they were in tears when she took to screens again on Saturday, September 14. Amy joined the BBC programme in 2017 and quickly became a fan favourite, dancing with the likes of James Bye, Tom Fletcher and Brian Conley.
Last month, the 34-year-old released a documentary about facing gruelling chemotherapy sessions in Birmingham. And staff from Good Hope Hospital in Sutton Coldfield sent her a video clip as she prepared to hit the dance floor again.

“Hi Amy, wishing you all the best from your breast care team in Birmingham,” one doctor wearing shrubs says in the sweet video. He adds: “You truly are an ambassador for the cause. I’m sure you’ll make it all the way to the final. Keep dancing.”
The video then shows staff throughout the hospital sending Amy best wishes. Another staff member, Chris, tells her: “We just wanted to say a massive good luck for tomorrow. It’s so lovely seeing you back to doing what you want to do after everything you went through last year.”
Strictly Amy: Cancer and Me, which aired on August 26, follows Dowden from the beginning of her breast cancer diagnosis. The emotional documentary shows her navigate each stage of her treatment.
The Welsh star, who lives in the Black Country, was originally diagnosed in 2023. She previously spoke of finding a lump in her breast the day before she went on her honeymoon.
In an emotional clip, Dowden and her husband Ben Jones are given the welcome news there was no cancer detected. "I'm so relieved,” she says. “It feels like I'm set free.”
Ahead of the release, the dancer added that she "hoped the film would help others find strength". She urged people to check themselves, no matter what age they are.
