Anderson Fire Department hires 6 new members

Mar. 26—ANDERSON — The Anderson Board of Public Safety Monday approved the hires for the fire department and one new officer for the Anderson Police Department.

Fire Chief Dave Cravens said that with anticipated retirements the new members of the fire department will bring it to 110 members.

Chief Mike Lee said the police department currently has 105 members.

Both the police and fire departments are budgeted for 110 members.

Nicholas Cole, 21, a graduate of Shenandoah High School is becoming the third generation of his family to join the fire department.

Cole's father and brother are both firefighters in Anderson and his grandfather retired from the department.

Dallon Bailey, 23, graduated from Anderson High School and has been a volunteer with the Markleville Fire Department. He has firefighter 1 & 2 certifications and HazMat awareness.

Walker Wilson, 26, is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and graduated from the Air Force Academy. He has firefighter 1 & 2 certifications and airport firefighter and is a HazMat tech.

Kody Stewart, 26, is a national registered paramedic and has experience in pediatric life support and pre-hospital trauma life support.

Jory Hethcote, 21, is a graduate of Shenandoah High School and currently serves on the Russiaville Fire Department. He is an EMT, has firefighter 1 & 2 certifications and HazMat operations.

Austin Anderson, 23, has been working as a blacksmith since 2019 and works with veterinarians to develop treatment plans for horses. He is a graduate of Daleville High School.

Abigail Leath previously served with the Anderson Police Department and has been working in Noblesville for several months.

She missed working in Anderson and wanted to return to the department.

In other business, the Safety Board approved the purchase of ballistic vests for all fire department vehicles as part of the active shooter program.

The vests cost $16,875 and will be on all fire trucks, ambulances and battalion chief vehicles.
