Andie MacDowell is working to love everything about her body.
The Maid actress, 64, spoke to People this week and revealed her thought process behind choosing to let her hair go gray. MacDowell, who initially stopped coloring her hair in 2020, when salons were closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, explained that she was “jealous” of her older sister’s silver mane.
“During COVID, I could see the roots with my face and with my skin and my eyes, and I liked it. I felt that I would be happier. And I am happier,” she told the magazine. “I really like it. I'm 64, and this is the time of my life. Eventually, I'm going to be silver. And I wanted to have this experience of feeling what it is."
The Ready or Not star said that it’s a bit harder to love her belly, which, she says, has gotten “bigger” with age despite working out “all the time” and eating “super-healthy.”
“I'm constantly having to work on loving that part of my body,” she said of her stomach. “It's so hard."
She added, "Aging is a really, really intimate educator on loving yourself, because you can't stop it. It's going to happen."
MacDowell has spoken about aging before. In a September 2021 interview with The Zoe Report, she spoke about the double standard women face.
"I think women are tired of the idea that you can’t get old and be beautiful," MacDowell, who has been a L'Oréal brand ambassador for more than three decades, explained. "Men get old and we keep loving them. And I want to be like a man. I want to be beautiful and I don’t want to screw with myself to be beautiful."
“Honestly, it’s exhausting to have to be something that you no longer are,” the Multiplicity star said at the time. “I was finally like, ‘You know what? I’m not young. And I’m OK with that.’ I hate the word ’embrace,’ because it always sounds like you’re having to accept something, and I don’t feel like that. We’re beautiful at every age and glorious in our own way, and we have so much to offer. I feel so much more comfortable. It’s like I’ve taken a mask off or something.”
