Emma Raducanu has withdrawn from her highly anticipated mixed doubles match with Andy Murray at Wimbledon, citing concerns over her right wrist. And the move has now drawn comment from Judy Murray.

The British tennis sensation, who had surgery on the same wrist last year, reported stiffness and opted not to risk further injury in the doubles event. However, she is set to continue in her singles campaign, facing Lulu Sun in the fourth round.

This decision means a premature end to Andy Murray's Wimbledon journey, as rules prevent him from finding a replacement partner at such short notice. His emotional exit alongside his brother Jamie in the men's doubles now marks his final appearance at the iconic SW19.

Judy Murray, Andy's mother, reacted to a broadcaster's comment calling Raducanu's withdrawal "astonishing" and lamenting Murray's last match at Wimbledon, with a succinct: "Yes, astonishing".

Despite some private concerns from Raducanu's camp about participating in the mixed doubles, the final call was made when Raducanu stated: "Unfortunately I woke up with some stiffness in my right wrist this morning, so I have taken the very tough decision to withdraw from the mixed doubles.", reports the Mirror.

Expressing her regret, Raducanu added, "I'm disappointed as I was really looking forward to playing with Andy, but I've got to take care."

Despite the intermittent rain, Raducanu was spotted practising at Wimbledon, donning a patriotic England shirt in support of the Three Lions ahead of their Euro 2024 quarterfinal against Switzerland in Dusseldorf.

However, a visible white strapping beneath her blue wristband hinted at her ongoing wrist issue.
