Andy Serkis' Mowgli releases its first trailer
After sharing a first look at Mowgli earlier in the day, Andy Serkis's first trailer for his alternate Jungle Book movie is here.
The trailer was first tweeted out by the Warner Bros Twitter account, along with the caption: "Witness the truest telling of the beloved masterpiece."
Well, you don't have to tell us twice.
The story follows the upbringing of the human child Mowgli, raised by a wolf pack in the jungles of India as he learns the often harsh rules of the jungle, under the tutelage of a bear named Baloo and a panther named Bagheera.
Although Mowgli becomes accepted by the animals of the jungle as one of their own, the trailer hints that it won't be all smooth-sailing.
"The jungle is no longer safe for you," Mowgli's told. "You must stay in the village."
The film – which promises to be a "darker" and more "serious" take on the Rudyard Kipling classic – was developed around the same time as Disney's own live-action version but was later delayed. It originally went by the title 'Jungle Book: Origins'.
Serkis will be performing motion capture (obviously) as Baloo, with Rohan Chand as Mowgli, Christian Bale as Bagheera. Benedict Cumberbatch as Shere Khan, Cate Blanchett as Kaa, Tom Hollander as Tabaqui, Naomie Harris as Raksha and Eddie Marsan as Vihaan.
Matthew Rhys and Freida Pinto will also star in their human forms.
Mowgli will be released on October 19.
