Anfield, Old Trafford, St James' Park and more: Classic football stadiums then and now

Liverpool are set to play host to another famous European night on Tuesday as Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich visit Merseyside for the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie.

Anfield has a long-standing reputation for coming alive on evenings like these, with countless examples of how supporters have created an impressive atmosphere from the stands to help their team in pursuit of continental glory.

Liverpool's home has undergone changes over recent years, with a new main stand opened in 2016 as part of a wider £260million local regeneration plan that boosted the overall capacity to more than 54,000 in addition to increasing matchday revenue.

But Anfield is not the only stadium to have seen significant changes over the decades, with fans of clubs big and small experiencing the beautiful game in vastly different ways.
